Here’s my small collection of amps at the storage.
- Late sixties Sunn fifty-watt head
- Randall 80w combo (circa 1980)
- Ampeg 30w combo reissue
- 1980’s Marshall 4×12
In band, we used to think about the tone coming out of the speaker; hence instead of banging away on the strings, we’d focus more on moving that cone in the speaker cabinet. It takes some power to be loud. It takes some finesse on the fretboard.
To me, spinning circles is akin to this. Focusing on the chain of power from the ball of the foot to the pedal to the crank to the chain to cluster to the hub. We want to make that rear wheel spin, much like moving those giant magnets of the speakers.
And we want it to be loud.
