I dutifully finish my recovery drink of Hammer Recoverite. No hard efforts last night, rather looking for HR strap only to find dead batteries in it as well as the speed/cadense sensor. Also, my cleats needed adjusting as they had come out of alignment.

Still, I spin. Get the heart rate going and get used to a routine. I haven’t lubed the chain in months; which is okay because it’s relative to the amount of miles I’ve put (or not put) in.

My shoulders and lower back ache. It’s the good kind though. It’s the ache from a decent workout.

tour book

Yes. I am a bike geek; our happy hour last week was themed “Tour of California”. I printed out the books from the website for everyone to read and learn about the race. Also put stage maps up on the wall. While it was good times, no one read the pamphlets and no one wore yellow like my invite said to … BUT I guess any excuse for wine is fine.

Start of training season.

When I was marathoning, Guiness was a staple of my diet. It had lots of carbs and plenty of calories to boost my fat levels (I had to get them up from 4% to 7% for long efforts of four hours plus).

Nowadays, with my percentage nearly ten percent, I’ve changed to Corona Light. One every other day. One of my friends is going alcohol free. I won’t even think about that.

… was on Sunday during my workout. That was the first time I’ve watched NASCAR. I can’t say that I’m a fan nor will I follow Kevin Harvick in his future endeavors, but I did like the show. One car crossed the start/finish upside, on fire. Wow.

I’ve only been riding once a week and every single time it’s like starting over.

Also, on Sunday was the prologue of the Tour of California. Julich’s feature at the start was a nice testament to what is probably his last season. A better feature was Chris Horner’s. I’ve followed him for a few years and it’s been fun to watch go from the domestic teams to pro tour status.

Tune in this week to Versus and watch the Tour. When we’re done with our stint here in North Carolina, I think moving to California might be a nice decision. Maybe Santa Barbara or San Luis Obispo. Seeing those shots on TV make me miss the West Coast.
