Portland Velo “A” Ride
There’s a reason I drive all the way to Hillsboro to meet these folks for a group ride. It’s fast, fun and a great group. The speed and the temperature got to me today. By the end I felt like throwing up. My vitals are okay but a little high. 133 over 75. Pulse is at 86. I’d say I’m definitely affected by the heat.
What went wrong?
Simply, I ran out of electrolytes. I normally take three to six pills an hour, but I only had six altogether. Note to self; keep Endurolytes on hand at all times. Especially when it’s hot. I’ve scanned a page from this months Runner’s World to air what some of the different types of heat sickness occurs.
While I didn’t cramp, I believe I fell into a minor heat exhaustion. I’m hydrating now and resting. I’ll continue with some massage in front of the TiVo of today’s stage of the Tour de France.
Here’s the stats for the ride:
* Distance 60.33
* Time 3:04:40
* Ave speed 19.6 mph
* Climbing Elevation 2411 feet
* Average HR 153 bpm
