Training # 10
Bainbridge Island. Three and a half hours of wet. Three and a half hours of cold. Soaked to the bone; I wanted to quit at mile 30. When I got back, it took me forty minutes or so to stop shivering. Is that some kind of hypothermia or something? I don’t think so, but I was fine, if not tired on the bike; it was just once I got in, I got the shivers. Weird.
These wet, cold days I get home and my feet and hands are useless. Numb. Skin is too sensitive to stand the shower. It’s like the blood gets diverted to my legs, but none to my extremities. Bah!
The ride itself was great. One of the best parts was cresting a hill and seeing the City of Seattle across the Puget Sound. Complete. Serene. Runners were in full force for a half marathon.
I finished the fifty miles with some gas in the tank. There was no need to go fast on this one. Endurance miles. Go slow. Go long. Rest Sunday. Spin Monday. Race Tuesday.
