West Hills Series
When they posted that there’d be some hill climbing, Portland Velo wasn’t kiddin’. I almost didn’t make it to the 5:30 ride off Bethany. Traffic was bad, bad, bad. Thanks to my buddy for letting me know the third lane situation on the Sunset Highway I made it there at about 5:35. Lucky for me they had waited a couple minutes and I rode in just as they were leaving.
At any rate, it was one of the best workouts I’ve done in the last couple of weeks. My Garmin pooped so I don’t have stats, but maybe I can import the data from Carlo’s Edge. On one of the descents, I clocked 45 mph on the computer; on one of the ascents, I clocked 3 mph. Legs cramped a little bit, but they did not lock up. I’m told by one of the guys that sometimes TUMS helps with cramping. I’m going to make sure to take some electrolytes before the next ride just in case. I’ll let you know how that works out. All in all, on a scale of one to ten, this ride was an eight. If you’ve ever ridden Newberry, you know what I mean.
Also, these roads are so awesome to ride. There’s hardly any traffic and the when there is, the drivers expect you to be on the road so they’re more careful.
My RHR has been elevated this week from overtraining. I think. Adjusting training in the next couple days might get things back to normal. Instead of gym or riding the trainer tonight I’ll take a rest day and spin tomorrow to be ready for some intense riding on Saturday.
On a separate note, my four year old Remington is taking a dive from battery issues. I’m goin to use our Target gift certificate and hopefully they’ll have the mack-daddy-electro-shaver-fo-shizzle
