It’s a rest day.
Active recovery? Low dose trainer spin? It’s supposed to be a rest day, so after this weekends’ biking, Lee say’s, “My legs feel good, but no riding today.”
Here’s a recap of Sunday’s ride with PortlandVelo.net.
He woke up at 8:00 to eat breakfast and get everything ready for the 10AM recovery ride starting at North Portland’s New Seasons. While checking the weather on the computer, he could not help but notice the time change. Good thing the alarm clock picked up the change from the satellite, else he would have woken late. Just to make sure, he check his cell phone. Yup. Daylight savings time.
Another ride check noted that the website posted the ride for 9AM instead of 10AM. Dang. With 30 minutes to get there would he make it? Let’s see. Clothes still in the washer. Chain hasn’t been lubed in a while. Haven’t eaten yet. Well, seven minutes in the dryer and the clothes were damp but wearable. Let’s forget about eating and chain lube. Better to get the gels and powders mixed for the ride instead.
Load the bike, gps, etc and he rushed to the meeting site. There were only two others there so a call was in order to the ride leader. It turns out the 9 AM start time was posted incorrectly, but he’ll be right down. The others would not wait. They road away on their own.
Lee didn’t mind waiting. It’s been some time since riding with Doug and Carlo.
Six of them took the Glen Jackson bridge into Vancouver, over to Lacamas Lake and back. Forty miles of no rain, but strong headwinds. This paid off on the way back as the tailwind gave them a decent rest. It was a leisurely 15 mph average (sometimes not because of the wind) …
